Caffeine High

Okay, so let's say a cup of coffee has 100 mg of caffeine, and a cup of tea made from a single tea bag has 50 mg, what would happen if you dipped the tea bag into a cup of coffee? Would the caffeine level increase all the way to 150? Or does saturation happen before that? Or does the effect multiply?

Water is good for you

Why don't they make cans of non-carbonated water? We have bottles and cans of juice, pop, beer, etc. Why aren't there cans of water?

Is living forever all it's cracked up to be?

Okay, so people often ask the question of "Would you want to live forever?". My answer to that simple question is NO! I see too many problems with living passed all people and even past the end of the earth. That would kind of suck.

So I asked myself another question. If I could live as long as I want, would I? To that I said yes. If I could choose when to end it, that would be much better. Then I started to think...When would I choose to end it? If things were going badly, is that reason enough to end it? If things are not good, they can definitely turn around and get better. So how long would things have to be going poorly for me to give up? The problem is, does time even have meaning anymore if you can live for as long as you want? If things were bad for 50 years in a normal lifetime, that would be a terrible life, but 50 years when you can live as long as you want can be a blip on the radar. So that's my first issue.

My other issue is...Could I handle it if the only way to die is to do it myself? Do I want suicide to be my only option? I know it's definitely not how I want to go.

So after this contemplation, what would I do? I guess it doesn't really matter in reality since I doubt I'll have the option, but if there were the option, I would probably spend so much time trying to decide that I'd die before I made the decision.

What makes these movies special?

Okay, so most people are okay with everyone having their own opinion about movies and songs. You can like and dislike what you want and I'll like and dislike what I want.

But sometimes a movie will come out that people will either like or feel that they are supposed to like. In conversations, if someone didn't like it, then they, "obviously didn't understand it". What is it about these movies that makes some think others are inferior for having an opinion that is different than theirs?

This recently happened to me with "Lost in Translation". I did not care for that movie very much. Granted, I did sleep through the second half which probably didn't help much, but I didn't like the first half at all. When I said I didn't like it, people looked at me like I was from a different planet. Why can't I have an opinion about that movie? I'm allowed to not like other movies. What is it about that one and certain others? I just don't get it.

Life of a dog

Sometimes I feel jealous of a dog's life...But then I remember the being neutered thing and the not being able to take a leak all day thing and I suddenly am not so jealous.

You Can't Take it With You

Why do they call it "taking a dump" instead of "leaving a dump"? I mean, you aren't actually taking it anywhere.

What is wrong with the airline industry?

Well, the title of this one pretty much sums up my thoughts. I don't understand how a company can get away with lying to the public so much. I swear they have a magic eight ball that gives them the excuse to give to the people waiting.

"sorry folks it looks like we have some..." "...bad weather in..." "...your destination city...You should be on board within 10-15 minutes"

Meanwhile, you sit there for the next two hours listening to new excuses every 10-15 minutes. If it's going to be 2 hours, tell me so I can go do something else, and don't lie to me. We aren't all morons.

So here's the thought part of it...How can these airlines continue to get away with almost never being on time, lying to the public, and losing my luggage? They wonder why they are losing money. Get some sound processes down!!

Let's fuel the economy

Okay, so I hate paying a lot for gas when I fill up...but what I hate more is the government keeping the price of gas low! While this doesn't seem to make sense at first, let's think about it. If the price of gas was $4 or $5 per gallon, innovators would be working pretty dang hard at coming up with new, more efficient methods of transportation. I would be willing to pay a little more for gas for a year if it meant having cars come out that got 70 miles per gallon...of water. Or a car that runs on hydrogen and has no emmissions. Or a car that runs in a way that I haven't even thought of. Has anyone in the government actually taken economics? Is everyone so short sited that they would rather pay less for gas until it runs out? Wouldn't it be nice if we could use oil for other things? Then we wouldn't be as reliant on other countries. Maybe I'm not thinking this through. It just seems so simple to me. Unfortunately, money talks...especially to those who make the final decisions.

Bill and Ted Screwed Up

Okay, in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, they were told to keep an eye on the time because while they are gone, the clock of San Demas keeps going. Then, in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, they are somehow able to go off for months of intensive guitar training and come back at the same time that they left! They come back to perform the concert that makes them famous. According to the rules in the first movie, they shouldn't have been able to come back at that time! Now the world is never gonna be like the cool Bill and Ted's universe.

Survival of the fittest...dogs

I find it interesting that certain dogs seem to have specific abilities hard wired into their brains without any training. For example, some dogs are classified as herding dogs. This means that they tend to run around animals and keep them going in a certain direction. I noticed that my dog does this at the dog park. We never trained her to do it. How did herding become important to survival? Was it simply because people wanted herding dogs, so they only bred herding dogs? That would seem to take a lot longer to make herding a part of a breed than people have been breeding dogs. Did we cause dogs to evolve more quickly than other animals? Or do we even know why things like herding are natural to some dogs?

Why aren't there more jokes?

Okay, so in Chicago, there is a street called "Lower Wacker". What I want to know is...why haven't there been more jokes made about this? I would have at least expected some sort of Beavis and Butthead comment made by someone. Am I the only one who sees the humor in this name?

Let's do a little math...

Okay, based on simple laws of averages, we can conclude that 50% of people MUST be below average intelligence. The upper 1% of wealthiest people make up, get this, 1%. Assuming that the two are mutually exclusive, these two groups combine to make 51% of people in the US. Coincidence? Perhaps...

Does anyone like to think anymore?

So I keep posting deep thoughts and no one leaves comments. I have now opened up comments to anyone instead of just blogger members. Do people not like thinking anymore? Or am I just not expressing myself in a way that allows people to ponder?

I will admit, my language skills are not the best. I cannot always communicate what I want to. Is anyone actually thinking anymore? I actually enjoy sitting and thinking about things. I try to come up with answers to my own questions. If there is evidence to help answer, then I will do research. If not, then I try to come up with my own answers. I logic my way through.

For example, the question, "where do we go after we die?". Obvisously no one can know this for sure. I decided to come up with my own answer. Am I making assumptions when I answer this? Absolutely. Some assumptions must be made to form the foundation of a belief. I remember thinking through the answer to this one. I would come up with an answer, then I would analyze it and find the holes. I then had to rethink it when I found holes.

For me, this is fun. I also know that my brother enjoys thinking like this. We both took personality tests, and it was found that our two personality types combined make up less than 1% of the world population. Does this mean that there are very few people who ponder? Let me know. What do people think about? I personally try to answer any question that has been unanswered while assuming that all of my answers may in fact be wrong. It's an interesting thought. Everything we know could be wrong.

If you pick a side, stay with it

Okay, before I start this one, I want to let people know...I AM NOT PICKING A SIDE ON THIS ISSUE. My personal beliefs are not going to be contained here, only questions that I have thought of while listening to others argue.

My thoughts have to do with some things I've heard about abortion. The argument tends to come down to whether people think abortion is murder or not. The "pro-choice" side believes that it is not a life yet while the "pro-life" side believes that life starts at conception. Okay, I can respect someone taking either side. You have to go with what you believe in.

When people begin their arguments (which never go anywhere, so I never recommend having them) the question always comes up, "what about in cases of rape or incest?". The answer from "pro-life" people tends to be, "well, those are different cases". This means that in cases of rape or incest, abortion is acceptable. My question is...If it's murder, why is it okay to murder in cases of rape or incest? If you think the baby is an innocent life, then why is it okay to kill it? That is like saying it's okay to murder an innocent person because someone related to them was a victim of a crime.

Overall, I get sick of hearing about the different arguments from both sides. They never go anywhere, and they just tend to piss people off.

I'm sick and tired of hearing whether it is right or wrong. This society is not based on right and wrong. We need to look at whether is should be legal or illegal. And you can't tell me that laws have to do with right or wrong. ANYTHING that is done in society that we consider to be "bad" has been acceptable in some society in the past at some point in time.

Okay, this post is starting to ramble. I'm done for now.

Are we de-evolving?

Survival of the fittest made sure that only the strongest survived. Those who didn't have features that made sense and those that were weak would ultimately die and not procreate. Now, the way the world is, we make sure everyone lives and has as full of a life as possible no matter how strong or weak. While I agree with giving everyone the highest quality of life possible in a civilized society, I do wonder if we have stopped human evolution in its tracks.

For example, thousands of years ago, the people with slow metabolisms would be able to store food longer and would be the most likely to survive during times of famine. Now, those with slow metabolisms gain too much weight and are, many times, less healthy than those with fast metabolisms.

I am not going to get into some of the more controversial items here because I don't want to anger anyone. My simple point is that we might never get stronger as a race...or are we getting stronger in what matters more? Is it more important to let everyone have input into society? Perhaps we are evolving in a different way. Perhaps strength is no longer the be all, end all of existence. Perhaps it is wisdom and knowledge...or perhaps the goal constantly changes as we do.

Signs, Signs, Everywhere there's signs!!!

Why do people keep putting up signs saying who they support in upcoming elections? Does anyone actually care when they see a sign saying "Bush/Cheney" or "Kerry/Edwards"? Seeing signs is not going to sway my vote, and I doubt it'll sway anyone else's vote. People like who they like, and I think that all signs do is get people pissed off when they see one for the person that they don't support.

Someone put up one of the biggest signs that I've seen to date close to my house that says "Bush/Cheney". Someone else then proceeded to spray paint a large X over the sign. First, a huge gawdy sign made me think, "what's wrong with this Bush supporter". Then, a huge spray painted X made me think, "what's wrong with this anti-Bush person".

Don't get me wrong, I'm an advocate of free speech, but I just want people to know, putting up signs for a presidential election doesn't do a damn thing except annoy people, so don't waste your time or money.

What is The Matrix?

Several years ago, I came up with an idea VERY similar to The Matrix. Later, I found out that my cousin's cousin is friends with the guys who wrote The Matrix. Coincidence? I think not. I'll be waiting for my royalty check from the Wachowski brothers.

PC isn't always right

Why is it still politically correct to make comments about big people? It is no longer considered to be appropriate to make comments about someone's race or religion. Why can you still make comments about someone's weight and have it be acceptable?

Also, why do people feel the need to "help" people who are overweight? I'll admit, I'm overweight. When I'm about to eat something, I really don't need someone to say, "do you really need that?". Why'd you say it to me and not anyone else around who is eating the same thing? This single item will have the same effect on me as it does on everyone else. I'm not a frickin' moron. I probably know more about nutrition than you do, so leave me alone. Worry about yourself.

The few, the proud...the less?

Why do people continue to use the words "few" and "less" incorrectly? I'm tired of hearing and seeing advertisements that say, "this has less carbs". It's FEWER carbs, punk! You can have less money, or less water, but you'd say you have less water because you have fewer bottles. If people speak incorrectly that's fine...I hate when people correct grammar in everyday conversation, but in an edited commercial, or written on a label?! Do some proofreading for God's sake.

I can't believe it's not butter

Have you ever taken the time to read all of the labels of things that you eat and drink? It's amazing to me how much artificial crap is in these things...aspartame, monosodium glutamate, caramel color, etc. What does this stuff do to us? I'm not sure, but since there aren't so many natural choices available anymore, I guess I'll find out along with everyone else.

Was Indiana Right?

In the movie, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", we get to see a young Indiana Jones in the beginning. He is seem stealing the Cross of Coronado from some guys. His reason for doing this was, "it belongs in a museum". Does this make it right? As far as I'm concerned, those guys were digging for treasure and they found it. Is Indiana Jones right simply because he is Indiana Jones? I don't think so. Indiana was wrong. Those guys should be able to do whatever they want to with their findings.
